What is anti-flood in a Telegram group?

One person sending twenty messages in ten seconds can bury a whole conversation. Anti-flood sets a limit and decides what happens when someone crosses it.

What is anti-flood in a Telegram group?

Anti-flood is a group setting that limits how many messages one member can send in a short time. If someone sends more than the limit within the time window, for example ten messages in ten seconds, the bot steps in: it can warn them, delete the extra messages, mute them for a while, or remove them. Admins can be left out of the limit.

What counts as flooding

Flooding is a burst of messages from one person that pushes everyone else's messages out of view. Sometimes it is a spam bot, sometimes a person pasting a long text line by line, sometimes someone who is just excited. The result is the same: the group becomes unreadable for a minute, and people mute it.

How the limit works

Anti-flood has two numbers: how many messages, and in how many seconds. A limit of ten messages in ten seconds catches bursts without bothering anyone who is having a quick back and forth. When a member crosses it, the bot applies the action you chose. In BotLaunch you can set more than one limit, so a short burst and a longer stream can be treated differently.

What the bot can do

The anti-flood module in BotLaunch can warn the member, delete the extra messages, mute them for a set time, kick them, or ban them. For most groups, deleting the extra messages and a short mute is enough. It stops the flood without turning a mistake into a ban. Warnings from anti-flood can also feed into the warnings system, so repeated flooding adds up.

Media and sticker floods

Some floods are not text. A stream of stickers or images can be worse than words, because each one takes up a lot of space. Anti-flood can limit media and stickers separately from messages, which lets you keep a group lively without letting one person post thirty stickers in a row.

Slow mode as a gentler option

Slow mode sets a minimum gap between one member's messages, such as one message every thirty seconds. It suits very large groups or a busy moment like a launch, when you want everyone to be heard and nobody to dominate.

Settings that rarely go wrong

Start with a generous limit, leave admins out of it, choose delete and a short mute, and tell the member why in the bot's message. Watch the group for a week, then tighten the limit if floods still get through.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good anti-flood limit?

Around ten messages in ten seconds catches bursts without affecting a normal conversation. Adjust after watching your group for a week.

Can admins be excluded from anti-flood?

Yes. The module can leave admins out of the limit.

What is the difference between anti-flood and slow mode?

Anti-flood reacts when someone crosses a limit. Slow mode sets a fixed minimum gap between one member's messages.
